One Banks dory of about a half dozen in our fleet, freshly painted for spring in front of our iconic shop on the banks of the Merrimack River. Here since 1793, we're credited for inventing these boats we sold in the tens of thousands. We now use them for rowing programs for kids and adults. Anne Bryant, righthandanne.comA Shelburne dory built by adult students. Lowell's Boat Shop holds classes to teach basic woodworking and boatbuilding at a reasonable cost. Documenting the design of this dory is a result of our participation in another worthy endeavor, The Dory Heritage Project. Anne Bryant, righthandanne.comOur docks are crowded with boats and our lawn is full of happy guests during the Mighty Merrimack Rowing Race and Fall Haul Celebration, held annually in October. Participants also borrow our fleet boats, but many bring their own traditional wooden boats. Anne Bryant, righthandanne.comGraham McKay instructs Apprentices. Apprenticeship results in long term relationships well after high schoolers graduate. They often come back to work on projects, take on part-time work, or to teach. The program is funded by membership and donors, available to students of all backgrounds. Anne Bryant, righthandanne.com
