Quiet Reserve: Stitching an Ambitious New Woman
presented by
Newcomb Art Museum of Tulane University
Quiet Reserve: Stitching an Ambitious New Woman explores embroidery at H. Sophie Newcomb Memorial College as both artistic expression and career training. Featuring “art needlework” inspired by nature and daily life, the exhibition highlights how Newcomb expanded opportunities for Southern women in the decorative arts and promoted ideals of the “New Woman.”
Curated by Sarah Brokenborough, the exhibition is supported in part by the Decorative Arts Trust’s Dean F. Failey Grant.
