The Exhibition Gallery at Florida CraftArt—celebrating excellence in contemporary fine craft and the artists who create it. Brian James

Florida CraftArt is a statewide nonprofit dedicated to advancing fine craft and supporting the artists who create it. Located in the former Rutland’s Department Store, a 1916 landmark in downtown St. Petersburg, it serves as a hub for exhibitions, education, and community engagement.

The Exhibition Gallery presents ten curated shows annually, showcasing excellence in ceramics, fiber, glass, wood, metal, and jewelry. Admission is always at no charge, removing barriers to experiencing the arts. The Florida Artist Gallery represents over 200 artists from across the state, offering professional opportunities and connecting their work with collectors and visitors.

Educational initiatives include the Youth Arts Program, Emerging Artists Program, mural tours, and professional development for artists. Through exhibitions, partnerships, and outreach, Florida CraftArt fosters appreciation for handmade work while strengthening Florida’s cultural landscape. As it approaches its 75th anniversary, the organization continues to sustain and promote fine craft statewide.

Penland School of Craft is dedicated to helping people live creative lives. Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, Penland offers one-, two-, and eight-week workshops in books and paper, clay, drawing, glass, iron, metals, photography, printmaking and letterpress, textiles, and wood. The school also offers artists’ residencies, community collaboration programs, and a gallery and information center.

The Penland Gallery & Visitor Center, located at the entrance of Penland School, serves as an inspiring introduction to contemporary craft. The gallery features curated exhibitions from March to December, showcasing the work of current and former Penland instructors, resident artists, and alumni from across the country. The Visitor Center Gallery provides a visual overview of Penland’s history and current programming, while the Lucy Morgan Sales Gallery showcases an impressive collection of functional and sculptural craft created by over one hundred fifty artists.

At Penland, craft involves continuous exploration of materials, techniques, and ideas. The gallery supports both the artists and their works, which embody this creative philosophy.

The Lawrence Arts Center (LAC) is a multidisciplinary community arts organization in Lawrence, Kansas, dedicated to activating the artist in everyone. Founded in 1975, the LAC offers dynamic programming in exhibitions, performance, and arts education. Central to its mission is a strong focus on craft, with year-round youth and adult visual arts classes in ceramics, printmaking, metalsmithing, fibers, glass, and more. Seven fully equipped studios support both traditional and contemporary craft practices, with instruction from local, regional, and visiting artists. Artist residencies, internships, and free workshops deepen engagement for all skill levels. Located in the vibrant heart of downtown Lawrence, the Arts Center also has three galleries, a theater, dance studios, and arts-based early childhood classrooms. Each year, over 450,000 people engage in LAC’s innovative and inclusive arts programming.

Cabarrus Arts Council

Presenting, Promoting and Inspiring Creativity in Our Community

The Cabarrus Arts Council was founded in 1980 in response to the North Carolina Arts Council’s plan to establish a local arts council in every county. In 1982, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners selected the arts council to serve as its Designated County Partner, receiving and distributing Grassroots funding from the state and the state arts council.Today, the arts council programs and operates the Davis Theatre and The Galleries, conducts one of North Carolina’s largest art-in-education programs for both the Cabarrus County and Kannapolis City school systems, supports arts organizations and artists through grants and workshops, and serves as a catalyst and consultant for public and corporate art.

Textile Center is a national center for fiber art, free and open to the public. Situated near the confluence of Minneapolis and St. Paul, it is located in the Prospect Park neighborhood, directly across from the Prospect Park Station on the METRO Green Line light rail. Textile Center

Textile Center is unique as a national center for fiber art, with a mission to honor textile traditions, promote excellence and innovation, nurture appreciation, and inspire widespread participation in fiber arts.

The Center’s resources include exceptional fiber art exhibitions that are free and open to the public, an artisan shop, a secondhand fiber art supplies shop, the region’s only accessible professional-grade dye lab, a natural dye plant garden, and one of the nation’s largest circulating textile libraries open to the public.

Textile Center produces more than 200 classes a year for all ages and skill levels through its youth, adult, older adult, and outreach programs. Dieu Donné is the leading non-profit cultural institution dedicated to serving emerging and established artists through the collaborative creation of contemporary art using the process of hand papermaking.

Programming

Dieu Donné was founded in 1976 by Susan Gosin and Bruce Wineberg to explore the untapped potential of hand papermaking as an art medium. We introduce artists from a wide variety of practices to the creative possibilities in hand papermaking, fostering experimentation and creating innovative works of art. Our work is realized through extensive collaborations with artists. We strive to teach a new visual language, providing a transformative experience that often leads to artistic breakthroughs. We share this work with the community through our gallery, public and educational programs.

Brooklyn Metal Works (BKMW) is a non-ferrous metal art studio that offers professional workspace for the development of art, objects, and jewelry. In addition we offer concept and technique based classes and workshops for all levels of learning. Our exhibition space and artist lecture series promotes artists, designers and makers from the metalsmithing field and beyond. Our studio prioritizes creating a safe and sustainable working and learning environment, complete with a wide inventory of tools and equipment. Responsible studio practices and stewardship of resources are at the core of our vision.

Our collaborative setting is designed to foster exploration, encourage experimentation, and strengthen the knowledge base of all involved. Silver River Center for Chair Caning is the nation’s only chair caning school & museum. Operated by David Klingler and Brandy Clements (a 4th generation chair weaver), it has recently re-located to Weaverville, NC just a few miles north of Asheville. During their 15 years in the River Arts District, they wove over 10,000 chairs hand taught hundreds of sessions to aspiring weavers, furniture makers, and those who just want to save their heirloom chair.

They are considered experts in their field and ambassadors of the craft. They teach both in-person and online at the school and on YouTube, as well as on location at craft schools like Arrowmont & John C Campbell Folk School. They travel the country spreading the love of chairs across the land, speaking at museums and craft shows, teaching kids, adults, and anyone who finds themselves in their presence.

Silver River is an Official Education Center of the Southern Highland Craft Guild. Their new instructional book, The Woven Chair, published by Blue Hills Press is launching alongside their grand re-opening New Years 2026.
