Brookfield Craft Center is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, founded in 1952 and incorporated in 1954 “to teach and preserve the skills of fine craftsmanship, and to enable creativity and personal growth through research and craft education.”

Our mission is to expand our reach and enhance our support for the artistic community, providing opportunities for individuals of all backgrounds to explore creative expression. We offer classes in blacksmithing, metalworking, jewelry, fiber arts, glass, ceramics, woodturning, drawing, painting, printmaking, photography and expanded digital media. In addition to our educational programming, our gallery and retail shop showcases the works of regional artists.

Beyond advocating for the arts and community building, we play an active role in local historical preservation, economic development, and an enhanced way of life for all those engaged in our diverse offerings of programs, classes, and events.

Graphic poster from Hartford Public Library meets the contemporary hand-woven designs of the Hartford Artisans Weaving Center—where community and textile artistry intertwine. Hartford Artisans Weaving Center

An exhibit about the threads, literal and metaphorical, that bind Hartford’s past and present, inviting residents to celebrate the city and our connections to one another.

Woven Hartford brings together two vibrant expressions of Hartford’s cultural life: the bold, colorful 20th century posters preserved in Hartford Public Library’s Hartford History Center and the contemporary hand-woven works created by the Hartford Artisans Weaving Center.

Our mission is to enrich lives through hand-weaving.

The Hartford Artisans Weaving Center is a non-profit creative community that preserves, promotes, and teaches the craft of hand-weaving. We teach classes to the public, curate exhibits and sales, and run a unique artisan program. The artisan program teaches weaving to people who are blind, visually-impaired, and anyone 55 and older.

To the best of our knowledge our artisan program is the only one of its kind in the nation, where people who are blind or older in age are creative members of a community that works together to create hand-woven products. Some of our artisans have been weaving with us since we opened in 2009. The Weaving Center is know nationwide for its high quality, beautiful products and innovative artisan program.
