Taking inspiration from Nordic herbal traditions, spend an afternoon exploring generational wisdom and knowledge of summer herbs and wild foods.

Students will make several herbal preparations while grounding their learning in modern understandings of herbal medicine and the Norse mythology and oral traditions of Sunna, the Norse Sun goddess and healer.

Try out nålbinding, a global textile tradition that has been especially well preserved in Scandinavia.

In this intro class, students will make their own nålbinding needle (the only tool necessary in this highly portable craft), explore about the history of nålbinding, and learn some basic stitches to start a bracelet or armband. You’ll leave with everything you need to continue this craft at home.

Suitable for ages 11+. $70 ($60 ASI member) + $10 materials fee payable to instructor.

Learn to carve Minnesota’s state bird, the loon!

This class invites youth and their important adult for a relaxing afternoon of carving outside in ASI’s fenced-in lawn.

Suitable for ages 8+, alongside an adult. $110 adult/youth pair ($100 ASI member adult/ youth pair) + $20 materials fee payable to instructor.

Light up your summer evenings with a custommade luminary.

Students will decorate a prepared ceramic luminaries with carved designs in this workshop, then pick a color to complement their design. The luminaries will be fired and returned to ASI for pickup after class.

This class also includes a complimentary beverage from FIKA Café. Suitable for ages 21+. $75 ($65 ASI member) + $25 materials fee payable to instructor.
